ZedX Releases New Web-Based System to Guide Crop Irrigation.
BELLEFONTE, PA - May 7, 2008 - Today, ZedX, Inc., a leading developer of web-based decision support software for agriculture, released Irrigation Scheduler™, a powerful new tool that precisely controls irrigation systems for crops and orchards.
Irrigation Scheduler™ helps manage pivot and other irrigation systems by creating schedules based on field water loss and precipitation. The tool supports decision making, planning, advising, and research for a wide variety of grain, vegetable crops and fruit crops. Its many valuable features include the capacity to incorporate grower precipitation and irrigation information as well as seasonal records of irrigation practices. Irrigation Scheduler™ allows users to easily track irrigation practices and plan future applications during the growing season.
ZedX, Inc. founder and president Joseph Russo said, "This innovative tool fully integrates irrigation and crop models utilizing sophisticated site-specific weather forecasts." Dr. Russo explained that a key feature of Irrigation Scheduler™ is that it takes into account the irrigation practices of the grower on a daily basis and integrates rainfall, evaporation, and contributions from prior irrigation events into the water budget of each field.
Irrigation Scheduler™ complements ZedX's AgFleet® system and other precision agriculture products. It is designed to operate as a stand-alone tool or in conjunction with the AgFleet® system. AgFleet® presently guides the management of more than 12 million acres of agricultural land in North America. The modular, web-based system facilitates the use of current and forecast meteorological information to guide planting and harvesting decisions, anticipate pest infestations, and analyze the economic results of different management options.
A prototype of Irrigation Scheduler™ was used by the winner of the 2007 National Corn Yield Contest sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association. A Virginia-based grower won the annual competition in the "No-Till Irrigated" category, achieving a remarkable 385 bushels per acre, the highest yield in all categories of the contest.
"Water is becoming an increasingly precious commodity," said Keith Wheeler, ZedX, Inc. CEO. "We believe Irrigation Scheduler™ will prove to be an invaluable tool for growers seeking both higher yields and more efficient water use."
